SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Law enforcement will be out in heavy numbers tonight looking for drunk drivers. Be sure to have a plan in place before heading out tonight to celebrate the New Year.
As Utahns head on out to bars and parties, they should be aware about all the options available to them to get home safe.
Have a plan in place and have a designated driver when heading out. Cabs and taxis will be prominent all throughout the Salt Lake Valley ready to pick up passengers. Services like Uber and Lyft are also another option for partiers as well as public transportation. Light rail services will run later than normal to help accommodate the holiday partiers.
Another option available is AAA’s Tipsy Tow Service which will get you and your home safe.
“We’re doing it because we have a real passion for traffic safety. We take pride in our advocacy and our heritage working with traffic safety so this is one of the reasons why we’re doing this. This is our community service to help people this time of year,” says Rolayne Fairclough, Spokesperson for AAA.
Beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting until 6 a.m. Friday morning AAA will have their tow trucks all throughout the state ready to pick up people who have had too much to drink, and take their vehicles all within a 10 mile radius for free.
To take advantage of these services just dial 1-800-AAA-HELP.
“if you feel like you’ve had too much to drink, or you’re a host and you feel your guest have overdone it a bit, or if you’re a bartender, or you have a restaurant, if you just see someone who needs some help, all you have to do is call 1-800-AAA-HELP and we’ll get someone out for you,” added Fairclough.
Another service available is Robert J. Debry and Associates ‘Free Rides Home Program,’ which will reimburse passengers by $35 to all those who take a cab home within the Salt Lake City Metro Area.
To take advantage of this offer all you have to do is take a photocopy of your cab receipt and mail it to the following address within 10 days of the holiday:
Robert J. DeBry & Associates

4252 S. 700 E.

With all the options available to Utahns and the extreme amount of officers patrolling the streets on New Year’s Eve there is no reason why anyone should be driving home drunk. We all want to enjoy a nice holiday but we don’t want to end it in a hospital bed or behind bars. Be responsible, be safe, don’t risk your life or the life of an innocent person.
