SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – Over 38,000 people attended Utah’s Gay Pride Festival, and what a celebration it was, as there was no lack of energy here today.

“I came last year and it was a great experience so I decided to come back,” said Shinghua Wng from Idaho Falls.

What’s that saying? If you build it they will come, well this weekend they certainly did. As thousands descended upon Washington Square in Salt Lake City.

“No matter if you’re gay, transgender, or straight that this is just a nice place to be to enjoy how kind people are toward each other,” said Wng.

This year, the festival saw it’s largest crowd to date.

“It definitely just keeps getting bigger the parade was like 30 minutes longer and they extended the grounds and I just like how it keeps growing every year,” said Isabel Baxter from Idaho Falls.

And boy was it a celebration. Several people were shaking their groove thang and enjoying the festivities as DJ’s blasted some of today’s hottest music through their loud speakers.

For some it was their first time at Pride, and it certainly wont be their last.

“There just a lot of love and happiness and just enjoying people, it’s what makes it fun and so everyone’s happy,” said Jonny McKay from Springville.

With gay pride growing and growing each year many out-of-towners are making the trek to Salt Lake City to take in the festivities.

There’s not a very big festival in Idaho Falls currently, and I’ve been to this one for a few years so I really wanted to come back and enjoy it,” said Baxter.

And like all good things, the festival must come to an end, Many folks are already looking forward to next years event.

“every year we’re just gonna get bigger and bigger so, it’s only gonna get better,” added McKay.
