Good weather conditions and the opening of TopGolf is set to be a big year for golfers

"Architectural Photography by Michael Baxter, Baxter Imaging LLC"SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 UTAH) – Spring is just a few hours away and golfers have already been hitting the golf courses. The mild winter we’ve had this year has played a big role in getting golfers on the green.

John Spikes, with the WingPointe Golf Course says the mild winter this year has allowed them to stay open longer this year.

And it’s not just the weather that has played in golfers favor, a new option will soon be heading to our state.

TopGolf Salt Lake City is expected to open its doors early next year and will be located in Midvale. This three story, 65,000 square foot golf entertainment center will boast more than 230 HD televisions, along with an extensive food and drink menu. It will also harbor a rooftop terrace with fire pits, and an extensive area for live musical performances. Their lower lounge will offer free pool tables, shuffleboards and Xbox Kinect.

Officials at TopGolf say they chose Salt Lake City as the newest location to build their venue because of Utah’s growing economy and the population’s love of being outdoors and enjoying the elements.

Topgolf is also expected to help boost the economy bringing in 450 jobs to the area and a projected $264.5 million over a 10 year period.

Golfers at WingPointe say they don’t feel threatened by the news of TopGolf coming to the area. On the contrary, they feel it will only boost enthusiasm, and get more people interested in the game.

“I think people that want to play golf or have an interest in golf will play, regardless of the situation,” said Dennis Lewis, a golfer at the WingPointe Golf Course.

Meanwhile, golf courses say they think it’s a wonderful idea to get people to play golf from all different skill levels.

“It gets people out there in an avenue to hit some balls, players who perhaps have never played before get the opportunity to get out there,” said Spikes.

Adrienne Chance, Director of Communications for TopGolf says the venue is not meant to threaten golf courses in the area. They view the venue as an entry point and a complement to the sport and hope to offer golfers of all skill levels a “fun, non-intimidating environment with the ultimate goal to help grow the sport.”

The new facility will break ground this spring and is expected to be open to the public early next year. Residents interested in tracking the site progress can do so by following their Facebook page at, or their Instagram page @topgolfslc.
